Inspire To Box – Nelson
I Am Naveed Akram and I am a Youth Worker who attends the free Tuesday and Thursday Sting Like A Bee sessions at Elite Community Hub, doing these sessions helped give me the confidence to complete a Level 1 England Boxing Coaching course. By completing the Level 1 course, it only gives you the basics.
However, working with Elite Boxing Club. People like; Liam, Mikey, Jack and Alex, have given me many ideas, drills and combinations which I have used with the young people I work with as part of my community project which is Inspire2Box.
Inspire2Box is a small charity project based in Nelson, Lancashire working with young people aged between 11 and 17. I got the idea for this by discussing this with the coaches at Elite Community Hub. The young people who take part have grown to love the sport of boxing. The young people who attend the project are high school and college students. The young people attend the project as some of
them have been involved with anti-social behaviour.
Inspire2Box gives the young people the opportunity to use their energy in a much more positive manner. The sessions run 3 nights per week.
The young people who attend have said,
“By attending sessions at Inspire2Box and Elite Community Hub, I have gained confidence and have learnt many new things, such as, combination work, footwork drills and technical work within the sport of boxing”.
Other young people have stated that,
“I think that by attending Elite Community Hub was a really good experience to improve and boost my confidence.”
Another young person said
“I love boxing and by attending the Elite Community Hub sessions and working with professional boxers, my love for the sport has grown more and more”.
